How to choose a wedding venue in Sydney

  • Ceremony and reception in one place? It saves transport and timing headaches. Gunners' Barracks, Bathers' Pavilion, Taronga and the Opera House all do both.
  • Wet-weather plan: for any outdoor ceremony, ask exactly where you'll go if it rains, and when you have to decide.
  • What's included: compare venue hire, minimum spends, hours, beverage packages and what suppliers you're allowed to bring in.
  • Sound and curfew: check before you book a band — see our wedding entertainment guide.
  • Getting guests there: headland venues in Mosman are a drive or a boat trip from the city, so plan transport or a water arrival.

Harbour wedding venues vs unique wedding venues

Harbour wedding venues in Sydney (Mosman's headlands, Balmoral, Bennelong Point) give you the photos everyone expects — and the competition for dates that goes with them. Unique venues like The Grounds or Taronga trade the classic view for a setting guests won't have seen at another wedding. Hosting an engagement party first?
